We are committed to exalting Jesus Christ by fulfilling His expectations for His church as revealed in Scripture; therefore, we will: Glorify Christ, Edify Believers, and Testify to the Lost
Psalm 119:105 Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
We glorify God by declaring and reflecting His character. God has chosen to reveal Himself to us through His Holy Word, the Bible. The Bible is God’s inerrant, sufficient, and authoritative Word for all of life. The Bible alone instructs how we, people created in God’s image and for His glory, should live in a right relationship with Him and with others. It follows, then, that we must make the teaching of God’s Word the central and binding authority in all that we believe and do.
Further, we desire to teach God’s Word in such a way that together we become doers and not just hearers of God’s Word. As a result of this teaching ministry, we will be maturing more and more into the likeness of Jesus Christ.
Thus, through small group Bible studies, Sunday School classes, Sunday morning preaching, junior church, and AWANA, we will endeavor to saturate our church with God’s Word, relying on the Holy Spirit to change lives.
2 Peter 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.
God alone is worthy of our worship. Our goal is to love and worship Him above all else. God is not concerned with the physical trappings of worship. Instead, God is infinitely concerned with the heart of the worshiper. We desire that the worship of our Creator at Cornerstone Church originates from our heart.
Furthermore, Jesus said that God is actively searching for those who will worship Him with a heart that is wholly His. It is our prayer that God finds a multitude of such individuals worshiping Him from the depths of their hearts for the simple fact that He alone is worthy! It is our desire that God finds you doing what you were created to do – giving honor, glory and worship to Him!
Acts 2:42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Disciple making seeks to equip God’s people for the work of His ministry. The Holy Spirit has gifted each authentic believer with gifts to contribute to the spiritual development of our church. We desire to glorify God by reproducing biblically based believers who will edify others and testify to the lost. We will encourage God’s people to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, to discover and develop spiritual gifts, and to grow in their faith.
Romans 10:15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
Cornerstone desires to share the light of Christ with our community. Cornerstone embraces the great commission to engage our world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are committed to loving the people in our community and sharing with them the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. We encourage, equip, empower, and expect every member to be personally involved in proclaiming the Name and Fame of our God, and what He has done through His Son.
The steps for membership: 1) regular attendance for 6 months, 2) take the membership class and fill out a membership form, 3) meet with the elders and share your testimony, and 4) be received into membership following these steps.
At Cornerstone Church we desire to take great care in facilitating opportunities for our people to grow in both knowledge and wisdom.
With this end in mind, we offer opportunities to grow in knowledge in Sunday School classes and the Sunday morning worship service. We offer Life Groups as a means to grow in wisdom.
Step 1: Identify Gifts, Talents, Abilities, and Desires
This step in the process towards may begin by a member showing a desire to serve in a specific area of ministry or by others in the church seeing within someone an ability to serve within a specific area of ministry. Once the need and desire is established, the member would meet with an elder to discuss personal gifting, abilities, and desires. This meeting may confirm this desire or it may result in being directed to another area of need or ability.
Step 2: Equip For Service
Once the specific area of need is established the steps towards being equipped for that area of service will be implemented. For example: If the initial meeting concluded in someone’s desire to work in a particular children’s Sunday School class, there would be certain steps that would need to be taken towards that goal. (1) They would have a meeting with the children’s ministry pastor and would work through the “child protection policy” and philosophy of teaching children at Cornerstone. (2) They would co-teach for a minimum of 2 months with another seasoned teacher. (3) They would teach on their own with a bi-weekly update to the children’s ministry pastor. Each area of ministry will have its’ specific steps, and those steps are outlined in the more thorough service booklet (available at the church office).
Step 3: Practice Spiritual Gifts
As part of our church covenant we commit to “use the gifts, talents, and resources God has given us to build up the body of Christ at Cornerstone.” We desire to implement the spiritual gifts that God has given each of us so that the whole body is both ministering and being ministered to. Once the two previous steps have been accomplished (identify and equip), we desire to release you to serve in the manner in which God has prepared you. (Romans 12:4–6; 1 Corinthians 12-14)
All members should continue to grow and serve. As they do, they should draw others into this process. We desire that all members strive to invest in the growth and development of others.
